In January, we went out to Katy, TX to attend a memorial service for my husband’s cousin Tim, who died tragically in the final days of 2025. Although I’d only met him a few times, listening to stories of this athlete, husband, and father made me wish that we’d had more time together.
One remembrance from a coworker stuck with me. At the start of a personal training session, Tim would always encourage his clients to “Show me something good.” Words that, of course, have implications beyond the gym.

Show me something good. As a busy parent, I sometimes find that the day-to-day hustle can get in the way of staying in touch with what matters and modeling that for my child. Which is why Tim’s challenge feels both ennobling and accessible. How can we honor our values in a small, daily way?
‘Something’ means that we don’t have to do everything. Or the optimal thing. Or the same thing as the next person….
