I know, y’all: writing about grief is not the most energizing way to launch a “happy summer!” newsletter.
But it also feels like the most honest one: the end of the school year is a season of change, transition, and, yes, endings. There can be a healthy dose of sadness and loss intertwined with joy and celebration.
Even my graduating 5th grader, who typically counts down the days to summer break, found himself wishing this year for “one more week of school.”
As a parent, I’m always torn between an eagerness to find out what’s next for my child and a secret wish for ‘just one more.’ One more year of elementary school. One more night of bedtime reading. One more cuddle on my lap….
