“When people think about a highway, children are not the first thing that pops up in your head. But how we design our cities, our decisions about infrastructure are so deeply connected with kids’ respiratory health … as well as this more general right that kids have to a livable climate.”
Eileen McGinnis, PCC Founder
On Sunday, November 5th, thousands of Austinites will gather for a historic rally to oppose the widening of I-35 through our city.
The Parents’ Climate Community is organizing a kids’ ‘construction crew’ to bring youth and parent voices to the rally. We’ll be sporting construction hats, vests, and traffic-sign props to tell the TX Department of Transportation, along with government officials, that WIDENING FREEWAYS = DEAD END.
We’ll also provide bubbles, art supplies, and snacks, along with extra costumes, to make this rally fun and easy to attend with little ones! Join us!
When? Sunday, November 5th 11-noon
Where? Sanchez Elementary School parking lot (73 San Marcos St.)
Why? Highway expansions are threatening our kids’ health and their climate future.
We also need your help to turn out as many parents and families as possible! Sign up here to do outreach or bring supplies—even a few minutes of your time can make a huge impact.
