Typically, I am down for any opportunity to talk about climate. But right now, climate is not at the forefront of many hearts and minds, mine included.
So, I’m writing this month’s letter in solidarity with the people of Minneapolis and with immigrant communities nationwide.
Even when we ‘stay in our lane’ of climate action, all of the work we do is deeply connected.
We’re living in a moment where the cruelty of dominant systems based on money, power, and hate is on full display. None of these systems value children’s lives and their right to thrive, whether that looks like gun violence in schools; extreme heat or air pollution keeping kids indoors or sending them to the emergency room; or children living in fear of being snatched away from their homes and schools or separated from family members.
Over the past weeks, we’ve also glimpsed an alternative way of being in community, one rooted in love. We’ve collectively mourned caregivers who were perceived as a threat not because their love and compassion is a weakness, but, on the contrary, because a culture of care has fierce, transformative power….
