With my 5th grader graduating from elementary school next month, I’ve been thinking a lot about transitions. As his school campus closes permanently due to the AISD consolidations, this transition feels particularly bittersweet. School’s out forever.
Of course, the crossings on my mind are a lot bigger than middle school. The current war shows yet again the instability and harms of relying on oil and gas power and the need to accelerate the renewable energy transition. Recent EPA rollbacks on clean air protections demand that we work toward a world where kids’ right to breathe is universally valued.
Y’all, this is why we’re bringing Kidical Mass back to Austin for a second year: the event embodies the many kinds of crossings that our kids and communities are navigating right now….
